Marketing is my passion, and Affiliate Marketing has my heart
From a young age I knew I wanted to work in Marketing. What I didn't know at that age was how broad marketing could be. After finishing school and college (where I studied Business, Economics and English) I took a degree in Global Marketing. During the course I built my foundation in marketing, understanding the different disciplines. I worked part time while studying helping as a marketing assistant managing social channels for a number of small businesses.

After graduating with a First Class Honours I entered the big wide world of work. I applied for a range of different Marketing roles but eventually landed at the UKs leading Affiliate Network, Awin. It was here I learned about the Affiliate Channel and its importance to the business. I developed a number of skills at Awin including relationship management, project management and digital strategy. I worked across a number of big clients including EE, Shop Direct and The Hut Group. However working at an Affiliate Network meant I only ever saw the worth of the Affiliate Channel and wasn't given the opportunity to see how it fit within the wider business.

Hence why I moved to Direct Line Group. Direct Line Group's Affiliate Programme was going through a big transformation and was looking to move in house. This gave me the opportunity to use my skills from Network side, while learning how my channel made a wider difference and worked alongside the other marketing channels. My role now gives me the opportunity to work closely with the Biddable Team and Brand Managers to understand the true impact of Affiliate Marketing.

Current Position

I manage and grow our affiliate programme
My role consists of managing the day to day running of the programme. Maintaining and building relationships with all our affiliate partners, creating strategies to improve performance, managing budgets and promotions.
As a regulated company I also work closely with our affiliates to ensure all copy we promote is compliant and therefore not misleading or confusing for the customer.

As well as the day to day management of the programme I help create and execute strategies to grow the programme. The channel is continually adapting and we need to ensure we keep on top of technologies and advancements to create the best programme we can, driving the best value for both Direct Line Group and our partners.

We also work closely with a number of teams around the business to utilise the Affiliate model. Whether that's tracking the performance of certain activities, or providing incentives and rewards to customers or businesses.

Main Motivations

The chance to grow, develop and make a difference to the business
The Affiliate channel is one of many marketing channels, however it drives a strong proportion of our sales and revenue. I have a huge amount of pride working in a channel which makes such a contribution to our business.

I also love that I have the opportunity to work so closely with a number of different affiliates. From previously working Network side relationship management has become a big part of what I do. Working closely with each affiliate to see how we can tailor our offer and message to appeal to their audiences and building different strategies for each partner is a real driver for me.

I also really like my team and the company I work for. We all have each others best interests at heart and support and motivate each other daily. I am always learning from those around me and developing myself and my skills. I love to continually learn and am always given the opportunity to do that here at Direct Line Group.

Top Advice

Be open to always learning
Learning shouldn't stop when you finish education. There is always something new to learn and develop and be taught. I would recommend you always have an open mind to learn. Put yourself into opportunities to develop and grow yourself. Never be content with the knowledge you currently hold. There is always something else to be taught.

Greatest Achievement

Revolutionising our programme and winning awards for it!
From when I started at Direct Line Group we wanted to make a change to how our programme was managed. We therefore moved the programme in house, and managed the relationships with all our affiliates directly. This allowed us to build stronger connections and strategies with each partner and grow the programme.

This development was not only recognised internally with incredible YoY growth and ROI improvements, but we recently won an external award for our affiliate channel, being named Best In Finance at the Performance Marketing Awards, and highly commended for Best Account Team. To be recognised externally for the work we have done to the channel makes me really proud.
