Key Experiences

‘Getting a Good Home/Work Life Balance’
I have worked in the Legal Sector for 15 years. I started as an Admin Assistant and progressed to a Legal Secretary within a 2 year period. I have been with DLG Legal Services since their launch in March 2014. During this period I have become a mum so being supported by an organisation that allows for a good work/life balance has been crucial for me. By allowing me to reduce my hours to split my time at home and work it has had a considerable positive affect on my wellbeing and empowers me to put my all into my job during the working day.

Current Position

‘I work as a Legal Secretary for DLG Legal Services’
As a Legal Secretary I assist the Managers, Team Leaders and File Handlers with the day to day running of the office. I also interact with Customers and Third Party Sources, such as Defendant Solicitors and Third Party Insurers.

A typical day consists of splitting up Management Information for the File Handlers to see their daily progress on Files, audio typing, responding to Customer emails, ensuring that our office equipment, i.e. printers and photocopier, are working adequately and placing weekly stationery orders.

My support to the staff in the office enables them to do their job to the best of their ability.

As well as my Secretarial role I am also a CSR Representative for DLG Legal Services in Leeds. This involves me liaising with charities in the local community and arranging for my colleagues to go out and complete one day volunteering projects.

Main Motivations

‘To Support my Colleagues and our Customers’
Part of my role is to manage a public inbox which our Customers or potential Customers often use if they need assistance with their claim. I can give them the File Handler’s details, along with the assurance that their query has been acknowledged and will be dealt with.

Sometimes the progression of their claim isn’t going as the Customer would like, I then have to escalate matters to a higher management level on their behalf.

Top Advice

‘Live the DLG Values’
We have 6 values at DLG which I personally try to incorporate into general everyday life. Work Together; Aim Higher; Bring All of Yourself to Work; Take Ownership; Do the Right Thing and Say it Like it Is.

I have found that by ‘living the values’ it enriches my life and in particular my mental wellbeing, both at home and at work.

Greatest Achievement

‘Going Beyond my Secretarial Role and Helping Local Charities’
At DLG Legal Services we have a ‘Culture and Capability’ priority to create a high employee engagement. I wanted to be the one to make this happen and so I put myself forward to be a CSR Representative for DLG Legal Services Leeds.

I am very proud that I was able to arrange for a team of 11 members of staff to go out and spend a full day with a local community centre. They helped to dig out a large garden area with a view to creating a children’s natural play area. I secured some funding for the project, which DLG paid to the charity. As a result of my contribution I won a ‘Star of the Month’ award.

I continue to arrange the CSR days for our staff, as well as taking part in internal office events such as promoting our nominated charity ‘MIND’ and taking part in the Macmillan Bake Off.
