To be a successful actuary there are 3 key qualities you need to have:
- Love working with numbers. You need to have a passion for maths and be interested in learning how you can use it in the real world.
- You have to be inquisitive. Being curious and having the patience to discover the drivers of trends and movements in your data is something that actuaries take a lot of pride in.
- Excellent communication skills. Our work is very technical and we love finding new and exciting methods to make sense of our data. However, to make the business take note of our findings and suggestions it is important to communicate it in a simple, concise and interesting manner
